Support Your Park

Muir Woods National Monument is a federally protected old-growth redwood forest run by the National Park Service, with major support from the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. Both organizations rely on visitor donations and volunteers to preserve the forest, fund education programs, and keep trails and bridges in shape.

Below are the current, verified ways to help, whether with money, time, or simply by visiting responsibly.

Donate

The easiest way to give is through the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, the nonprofit partner to Muir Woods and the rest of the Golden Gate National Parks.

You can also donate directly to the park through the NPS Donate page for Muir Woods.

Volunteer

Hands-on help is needed year-round. The National Park Service runs volunteer programs in the monument itself, and the Parks Conservancy runs restoration and native-plant programs nearby.

Give Without Giving Money

Not everyone can write a check. Muir Woods also benefits from:

  • Following Leave No Trace. Pack out what you pack in, stay on trails, and do not feed wildlife. Leave No Trace guide.
  • Visiting at off-peak times. Weekday mornings distribute visitor impact and help the park operate smoothly.
  • Spreading the word. Accurate information about reservations and trail etiquette reduces pressure on rangers and the ecosystem.

Buy the Book, Support the Park

The visitor center bookstore at Muir Woods is operated by the Parks Conservancy. Purchases there directly fund park programs: field trips for Title I students, habitat restoration, and interpretive staff.
