Get Involved at Muir Woods
Muir Woods is federally protected, but it is not self-sustaining. Trail maintenance, education programs, and restoration work all rely on donations, volunteers, and visitors who show up prepared and respectful of the forest. Here are the easiest ways to help.
Donate
The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy is the nonprofit partner to Muir Woods. A one-time gift, recurring donation, or membership directly funds restoration work, Junior Ranger programs, and school field trips.
Leave No Trace
The cheapest way to support the forest is to visit it well. Stay on the boardwalk, pack out everything you bring, and do not remove plants, cones, or wildlife. The full Leave No Trace guide covers the specifics.
Volunteer
If you have time rather than money, the NPS and the Parks Conservancy both run volunteer programs: trail crews, native-plant nursery work, and interpretive support. Details and current openings are on the Donate & Volunteer page.
Stay Informed
Trail closures, reservation changes, and seasonal alerts all move quickly at Muir Woods. The news and updates page collects the current ones.
