Muir Woods & Sausalito — Return by Bus or Ferry
The cheapest way into the grove without a car, and the most-booked of the lot with over 5,000 reviews. Coach out through the redwoods, then choose the bus or a scenic ferry back across the bay.
Parking reservations are required for all personal vehicles visiting Muir Woods National Monument. Spots are limited and sell out quickly, especially on weekends and holidays.
This page covers reservation rules, current pricing, booking tips, and backup options if the lot is sold out.
Every vehicle entering Muir Woods must have a valid parking reservation. Walk-up parking is not available. Reservations can be made up to 90 days in advance through GoMuirWoods.com or by calling 1-800-410-2419.
Download your parking pass before you go. There is no Wi-Fi or cell service at or near Muir Woods.
Standard, accessible, and EV reservations include a 30-minute arrival window. Medium and large (oversized) reservations are limited to a 1-hour-45-minute total stay. A parking ambassador will direct you to an available spot when you arrive.
Vehicles over 35 feet are not allowed at Muir Woods due to the narrow, winding roads leading to the park. There are no RV parking facilities.
The parking fee is separate from the $15 per person entrance fee (ages 16+).
Muir Woods offers two EV charging stations in the parking area. EV parking costs $13 and includes access to the chargers. These spots are limited, so book early if you drive an electric vehicle.
If you cannot get a parking reservation, you have several options:
Every one of these departs San Francisco, includes park admission, and drops you at the visitor center — so the sold-out lot stops being your problem. Free cancellation on all three.

A genuinely small van and an unhurried 75 minutes in the grove — longer than the 1h45m cap that comes with an oversized-vehicle parking slot. Sausalito waterfront time on the way back.

The highest-rated option: bridge photo stops, the redwoods and Sausalito in one guided loop, with Alcatraz available as an add-on. Someone else drives the winding road in.
