Spring Shuttle Service Returns on Route 66/66F

The Muir Woods Shuttle is running its seasonal schedule. Larkspur Landing service operates weekends and holidays, and Sausalito service runs summer weekdays only (approximately June through August). Adult round-trip fare is $4; kids ride free. Shuttle seats must be reserved in advance at gomuirwoods.com.

2026 Nonresident Surcharge: Muir Woods Not Affected

A new $100 per-person nonresident surcharge took effect January 1, 2026 at 11 flagship national parks (including Yosemite, Grand Canyon, and Yellowstone). Muir Woods is not on the list. International visitors to Muir Woods continue to pay only the standard $15 entrance fee.

August 25 was a fee-free entry day at Muir Woods and all NPS sites. Parking and shuttle reservations were still required. Fee-free days continue into 2026 on select federal holidays.

Parking Reservation System Reaches Seven-Year Mark

The mandatory parking and shuttle reservation system, launched January 2018, passed its seventh anniversary. Reservations remain required seven days a week, year-round, and can be made up to 90 days in advance at gomuirwoods.com or by phone at 1-800-410-2419.

Parking Rates Updated

National Park Service

Standard vehicle parking is $10; medium vehicles $30; large vehicles $45. Entrance fees are paid separately: $15 per adult (16 and older), free for children 15 and under. An America the Beautiful annual pass covers the entrance fee.

Independence Day Traffic Advisory and Public Safety Notice

On Thursday, July 4, parking will be extremely limited in areas managed by GGNRA and San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. Public transit, bicycle, taxi, or ride-share services were recommended to avoid congestion.

Beach Safety Practices for the Coast as Summer Heat Arrives

GGNRA discourages swimming at most of its coastal beaches. Stinson Beach is the only park beach with a staffed lifeguard program, from the first week of July through Labor Day. Coastal waters around the Bay are extremely cold and subject to strong tidal action.

Interested parties were invited to submit a proposal to operate food and beverage and retail services at Muir Woods National Monument. The current operator (Muir Woods Trading Company) emerged from this process.
