On Thursday, July 4, parking will be extremely limited in areas managed by Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) and San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. Public transit, bicycle, taxi, or ride-share services are recommended to avoid traffic congestion.

Beach Safety Practices Ensure a Safe Visit to the Coast as Summer Heat Comes to the Bay Area

Golden Gate National Recreation Area discourages swimming at most of its coastal beaches. The National Park Service area of Stinson Beach is the only park beach with a staffed lifeguard program, from the first week of July until Labor Day for summer 2019. On coastal areas of the San Francisco Bay, water is extremely cold and unpredictable due to tidal action.

On June 12, Golden Gate National Recreation Area Park Rangers and lifeguards recovered a body at 7:15 am at the north end of Stinson Beach.

Pacific Gas and Electric to Begin Transmission Tower Repairs in the Marin Headlands

On June 7, 2019, in collaboration with Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Golden Gate National Recreation Area will close a series of trails and fire roads in and around Oakwood Valley Trail, Alta Fire Road, Rodeo Valley Fire Road, and Bobcat Trail.

Golden Gate National Recreation Area Implements Phase Two of Traffic Pilot Program in the Marin Headlands

On Friday, May 10, Golden Gate National Recreation Area will implement phase two of a traffic pilot program to relieve congestion, improve safety and parking, and enhance the visitor experience on Marin Headlands roadways. This traffic plan will be in effect through mid-fall, including Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Fleet Week.

On the morning of Monday, March 25, United States Park Police and Golden Gate National Recreation Area Park Rangers responded at 0800 to a report of a deceased female on the beach at Fort Funston, an area within Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
