Muir Woods Parking: 2026 Reservations, Costs & Tips
Parking reservations are required for all personal vehicles visiting Muir Woods National Monument. Spots are limited and sell out quickly, especially on weekends and holidays.
This page covers reservation rules, current pricing, booking tips, and backup options if the lot is sold out.
Parking Reservation Requirements
Every vehicle entering Muir Woods must have a valid parking reservation. Walk-up parking is not available. Reservations can be made up to 90 days in advance through GoMuirWoods.com or by calling 1-800-410-2419.
Download your parking pass before you go. There is no Wi-Fi or cell service at or near Muir Woods.
Standard, accessible, and EV reservations include a 30-minute arrival window. Medium and large (oversized) reservations are limited to a 1-hour-45-minute total stay. A parking ambassador will direct you to an available spot when you arrive.
2026 Parking Costs
- Standard Vehicle (under 17 feet)$10
- Medium Vehicle (17–22 feet)$30
- Large Vehicle (22–35 feet)$45
- Electric Vehicle (with EV charging)$13
Vehicles over 35 feet are not allowed at Muir Woods due to the narrow, winding roads leading to the park. There are no RV parking facilities.
The parking fee is separate from the $15 per person entrance fee (ages 16+).
Tips for Getting a Parking Reservation
- Book early. Weekend and holiday slots sell out within days of opening. Set a reminder for 90 days before your planned visit.
- Try weekday mornings. Tuesday through Thursday mornings have the best availability.
- Download your pass in advance. There is no cell service at Muir Woods, so you cannot pull up your reservation on-site.
- Arrive within your window. Your reservation guarantees a spot only during your 30-minute arrival window.
- Check for cancellations. If your preferred date is sold out, check back regularly. Cancellations do happen, especially in the days before a visit.
Electric Vehicle Charging
Muir Woods offers two EV charging stations in the parking area. EV parking costs $13 and includes access to the chargers. These spots are limited, so book early if you drive an electric vehicle.
What If Parking Is Sold Out?
If you cannot get a parking reservation, you have several options:
- Book a guided tour from San Francisco. Small group van tours depart daily and include park admission, a Sausalito stop, and a local guide. No parking reservation needed. See our Muir Woods tours guide.
- Take the Marin Transit shuttle. $4 round trip; reserve alongside your park entry at gomuirwoods.com. See our shuttle guide.
- Rideshare drop-off. Uber and Lyft can drop you off at the park, but coordinating pickup is difficult because there is no cell service in the canyon. Arrange a return time with your driver before they leave.
